Backend Engineer (m/f/d)

Your Responsibilities

As a Backend Engineer at FRIDAY, you will actively shape our digital future. You will have a chance to get to the bottom of complex topics such as insurance contract processing, billing, payments, or marketing automation, among others.

  • You're fearless in talking with stakeholders to understand the requirements.

  • With product owners, designers, and domain experts, you rethink insurance and thrive for the best possible experience for our customers.

  • You analyze and improve the effectiveness, performance, and scalability of our products

  • You want to understand customer needs and dilemmas to build the best solutions - you want to be involved in a domain discovery through Event Storming sessions

  • You contribute to a modular, state-of-the-art software platform with a microservice architecture built and run on AWS

  • With your team, you take ownership of the products you build and continuously work to improve them. Ownership is a great power, and with great power comes great responsibility. That's why you will maintain what you've built as we follow the motto "you build it, you run it."

  • You use technologies from our tech stack: AWS, Kubernetes, Java, Kotlin, Micronaut, Spring Boot and Guidewire as core-insurance systems.

  • You thrive for 100% automation: Not only for customer processes but also in software delivery, testing, and operations - you understand that TDD is not for testing only 

Your ideal background and skillset

  • You have at least four years of relevant work experience with software development, specifically with JVM-based languages, knowing Kotlin will be considered an advantage

  • You know what good architecture is

  • You know what the difference is between lousy code and technical debt.

  • You understand the advantages of the Event Driven approach, and your knowledge about DDD spans beyond the blue book.

  • You are curious and always question the status quo.

  • You have the passion and the skills required to ship high-quality software.

  • You have relevant work experience in an agile team.

  • You understand web-scale software architectures and application design.

  • You feel comfortable building cloud-native applications.

  • You like to share and spread your knowledge.

  • Background in insurance is not required but will be considered an advantage.
